Beasiswa Bimbel: Studentship for University Entrance Exams Preparation (SCALING)

Places in public universities is very competitive. There are only 30 seats for 1,109 students who applied for Management course at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) in 2019, or 182 seats for 1,478 students who applied for School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

Bandung is a host to three prominent state universities in Indonesia: Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Padjdjaran University (UNPAD) and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). It requires a tremendous hard work to achieve a high score exams to get an opportunity to be admitted at those top universities. Due to our education system, far from ideal, many last year high school students have to take some tutorials outside their formal schools, known as “Bimbingan Belajar”, to get the best preparation toward university entrance exams. The fee for these tutorials is not cheap, ranging from Rp 6 million to Rp 20 million, depending on the provider. Low income families cannot afford the tutorial fees, thus decreasing the opportunity to get admitted to state universities, let alone top universities.

AMADA has been the patron of Tim Muhibah Angklung (TMA). As its commitment to education, it ensures that every member of TMA get his/her best preparation for university entrance exams. We monitor the performance of all year 12 students, give some coaching and pay the tutorial fee for those who cannot afford it.

In 2019, we gave studentship to four members from the low-income families, so they can attend the tutorial class for one semester. All the four students passed the exams, and admitted to Padjadjaran University: two in Faculty of Communication Science, one in Faculty of Economics and Business, and one in Faculty of Cultural Science.

Out of 10 TMA members who attended university entrance exams, 9 of them passed and were admitted to the state universities.
